What is Puppy Socialization?

Socialization is one of the most important things that you can do for your puppy. Your puppy socialization period Is over between 16 to 20 weeks of age and after that time frame your puppy's learning will slow down. At this time, you may notice he will become more independent and may become more hesitant to approach new things.

Teach your puppy from a very young age to absolutely love all people, dogs, new environments, noises, sights smells and environments. This is key to preventing any type of fear in your puppy as they grow older. This is a good foundation for your pup’s socialization. All interactions should be as positive and as pleasant as possible. Understand that anything your puppy has not experienced, (or had had negative experiences with) by the end of his socialization, may cause a fear reaction, later on in life, possibly leading to stress anxiety and fear.

Make sure to not overexpose your puppy to these things. You should be socializing your puppy daily, but also allow rest time.

Pair any new event, dog, person, sights, with something that they love such as treats, toys, praise, attention. It's also very important to protect your puppy from Dogs that are not friendly, healthy or un vaccinated.

Everything should be introduced to your puppy in a very positive healthy way. Everything your puppy experiences at this time will be a huge factor in molding your puppy's personality.
